French Richest Cities : Methodology and Dataset

My ranking of richest cities in France is based on a dataset from the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty (FR : Ministère de l’Économie, des Finances et de la Souveraineté industrielle et numérique).

The dataset concerns the 2021 French tax on real estate wealth by territorial community :

  • Impôt de Solidarité sur la Fortune – ISF (in French).
  • Impôt sur la Fortune Immobilière – IFI

Description of ISF/IFI (tax on real estate wealth by territorial community)

For each city of more than 20,000 habitants with more than 50 taxpayers liable for the solidarity tax on wealth (ISF) or the tax on real estate wealth (IFI), you can find out the :

  • number of ISF/IFI taxpayers
  • average wealth (FR : patrimoine)
  • average contribution (FR : impôts)
  • by region, department and city of France

I’m choosing to present you the richest cities in France ranked by number of ISF taxpayers :
