My best of french rap (2023) : Methodology And Dataset

The ranking is from the French SNEP after 1994 : Syndicat National de l’Edition Phonographique.

The SNEP is an interprofessional association that has been defending the interests of recorded music in France since 1922.

I manually selected the top 23 best singles each week in 2023 according to the SNEP.

Here is the SNEP method and thresholds for obtaining certification:

Since April 2018: only streaming listening from premium consumption (paid subscriptions) is taken into account when calculating best sellers and certifications.

Singles certification: streaming + downloads + physical sales

A track’s downloads are converted into stream equivalents (on the basis of 1 download = 150 streams) and then added to the track’s streaming volumes.

Thresholds:

GOLD : 15 MILLION EQUIVALENT STREAMS
PLATINUM: 30 MILLION EQUIVALENT STREAMS
DIAMOND: 50 MILLION EQUIVALENT STREAMS
